Auto-Reply to Google Reviews with AI, on Your Rules
Happy customers get a prompt, personal thank-you. Unhappy ones get a person. You write simple rules, and MagicReply drafts or posts each Google review reply in your voice as new reviews arrive.
Auto-reply rules come with Pro and Business. The Free plan covers drafting and posting by hand.
Why automate only part of it
Most reviews are short and positive, and they deserve a reply as much as the complaints do. Writing "thanks so much, see you soon" fifty times a month is where owners fall behind. The reviews that need judgment are the few with a real problem in them. Rules let you automate the first kind and keep a person on the second.
How it works
- Connect your Google Business Profile with Google sign-in. Your existing reviews appear in the dashboard.
- Write a rule: one or more conditions, and what to do when a review matches.
- Test it against a sample review to see whether it matches and what it would do.
- Turn it on. New reviews are checked against your rules as they arrive, and anything no rule covers stays in your dashboard as usual.
What a rule can check
Star rating
Exactly 5 stars, above or below a number, or a range such as 1 to 2.
Keywords
Words that must, or must not, appear. "refund", "sick" or "lawyer" can always come to a person.
Sentiment
Positive, neutral or negative, so a 4-star review with a complaint inside is not treated as praise.
Has text or not
Rating-only reviews can get a short thank-you; reviews with a story get a fuller reply.
Location
On Business, give each location its own rules.
What a rule can do
Post automatically
An AI reply in your voice goes straight to Google.
Draft for approval
The reply waits in your dashboard until someone edits or approves it.
Use a saved template
Start from one of your own templates instead of a fresh AI draft.
Notify you
Get an alert so a person sees the review quickly.
Skip
Leave the review alone and handle it yourself.
A sensible set of rules to start with
This is a starting point, not a requirement. Plenty of owners keep every reply as a draft for the first couple of weeks, read what the AI writes, and only then let the positive ones post on their own.
| When a review is… | MagicReply will… |
|---|---|
| 5 stars with a written review | Post an AI reply automatically |
| 4 or 5 stars, rating only | Post a short thank-you automatically |
| 3 stars | Draft a reply for approval |
| 1 or 2 stars, or words like "refund" or "sick" | Notify the owner and draft a reply for approval |
Replies that sound like you, not a template
A wall of identical "Thank you for your feedback!" replies is easy to spot. MagicReply writes each reply from the review itself, mentioning what the customer mentioned. It can learn your voice from replies you have already written on Google, and each rule can set its own tone and length. If you would rather use your own words, point a rule at one of your saved templates.
For the reviews you handle yourself
Rules that hold negative reviews still save time: the review arrives with a draft already written. Our guide on how to respond to negative reviews covers what to say and what to leave out, with example replies. For ready-made wording, see the review response templates and the restaurant review reply examples.
